Ferrari have announced the signing of Carlos Sainz as replacement for Sebastian Vettel leaves the team at the end of this year.
Sainz, currently driving for McLaren, will move to the Italian outfit on two-year deal as teammate to Charles Leclerc.
“I’m pleased to announce that Carlos will join Scuderia Ferrari as from the 2021 championship.” said team principal Mattia Binotto.
“With five seasons already behind him, Carlos has proved to be very talented and has shown that he has the technical ability and the right attributes to make him an ideal fit with our family.”
Sainz said “I am very happy that I will be driving for Scuderia Ferrari in 2021 and I’m excited about my future with the team.”
Carlos Sainz started his F1 career at Toro Rosso in 2015 before moving to Renault at the tail end of 2017 season. He joined McLaren in 2019, replacing his compatriot Fernando Alonso.
The Spaniard’s seat in McLaren will be taken by Daniel Ricciardo who will leave Renault after the 2020 F1 season.
