The 2020 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells Tennis Garden has been called off due to the outbreak of Coronavirus.
Indian Wells, considered as the biggest tournament outside the majors, becomes the first tennis event to be affected by COVID-19 after a public health emergency was declared in the Riverside County.
In an official statement, tournament director Tommy Haas said “We are very disappointed that the tournament will not take place, but the public health and safety of the local community, fans, players, volunteers, sponsors, employees, vendors and everyone involved with the event is of paramount importance.”
Haas also said they will be exploring options of possibly holding the event at a later date.
