Racing Point have completed the F1 car launches by unveiling their 2020 challenger. The launch in Mondese, Austria, was also used to announce Best Water Technology (BWT) as the team’s title sponsor.
The new RP20 maintains the team’s now-traditional pink livery which was introduced in 2017 under defunct Sahara Force India. It is the final season they race under its current name, which will be changed to Aston Martin after team owner Lawrence Stroll bought a stake in the British car maker.
This will be the 7th season of Sergio Perez with the Silverstone-based team. The Mexican will be partnered by Lance Stroll, the Canadian in his second year with the “Pink Panthers” and fourth overall in F1.
Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer has outlined the team’s ambition of claiming leadership in the midfield, something they had achieved in previous seasons.
“This year we want to be a strong fourth. We want to be closer to the top three that we’ve ever been in the past, and we want to be top of the midfield.”
Szafnauer continued “Last year was a bit of a difficult year for us, we ended up seventh, on the back end of the midfield grid, but this year we want to take a step up and be where we normally can be.”
“In order to do that, we’ve had to do a lot of development work over the winter. It’s not that easy, the competition is getting stronger.”
With all ten teams having released their cars, the attention turns to the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona where the opening week of pre-season testing begins on Wednesday 19th February.
