Tottenham Hotspur have announced the appointment of Jose Mourinho as head coach, a day after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.
The three-time Premier League winning manager has signed a contract with the North London club until the summer of 2023.
“In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician.” Club chairman Daniel Levy commented in an official statement confirming the Portuguese’s appointment. “He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
Mourinho on his part said “I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”
The former Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid boss returns to the dugout almost a year after being sacked by Manchester United. His first game in charge is on Saturday lunchtime away to West Ham United. It will be followed by a home debut on Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League against Greek side Olympiacos.
